Hello taffy64 The problem with inquiries/ inquests are they do not always happen around the time of death or accident ,it might take place months or even years after the event . Further back in time you go they did happened one or two days after incident, but in more recent years with lawyers and unions fighting for their sides it could take ages. I also think that it is not a law that they have to be kept , this might be why you can't find the record. There are reports of your grandfathers death in MERTHYR EXPRESS on page 6 FEB 3 rd and page 6 FEB 10th 1951 . These do not say what happened just he had accident at work and give his age, address ,family ,and a bit of his history. Perhaps there might be a report in another newspaper WESTERN MAIL .or SOUTH WALES ECHO giving more details.

Hello saskwelsh The simplest answer is that Thomas George is a relative of ANN'S if not her father or a brother perhaps or an uncle or a cousin . It could also be that the witnesses might just be friends of the couple and they had no living family or it could be two grave diggers who were having a break. You do have an address that could be helpful, my mothers family parish records just says of this parish and no parents names and the witness is the same for nearly everyone in the book . I think he might have been the bell ringer . Sorry not much of a help to you but GOOD LUCK ANYWAY !

For jeffmatthews looking at pages and saw your message thought as REARDON might be IRISH and possibly CATHOLIC had a look at catholic records in library . Found your family records of baptisms and dates of birth ,no address given but godparents names are given these are sometimes relatives .JOHN and CATHERINE'S wedding record is also there .There is a death of a CATHERINE EVANS died 21 NOV 1903 AGED 5I or might be 54 the address given is SECTION HOUSES these were also called THE FLATS and were located in BETHEL STREET GEORGETOWN MERTHYR TYDFIL (former CATHOLIC CHURCH ) photos on this web site . I looked at 1901 census and the family were living at number 20 the flats . There are no deaths of any JOHN EVANS in Catholic death records for Merthyr from July 1897- April 1931 . I hope this info might be useful .

Hello BOTH Do not know much about DOWLAIS area . You should be able to get LICENCE records from GLAMORGAN ARCHIVES in CARDIFF . These might tell you how long your families ran or owned pubs weather the names of pubs changed etc . There are also somtimes reports in local newspaper about licence renewals or applications for licence.
