I would just like to point out it was not The Bystanders that were the support band for the Hermans Hermits show at the Castle cinema,it was in fact The Cheating Hearts,I know coz I lent Lec Leckenby my Fender amp.no matter what you might have read in the local rag,it was in fact myself & a well known Welsh comic that formed The Hearts.my favourite incarnation of the band was when we became a three piece as Christopher Bean with Jeff Lewis on bass,Robert Edwards [my favourite drummer] & myself on guitar,we played what we liked & we played it well, thanks to our grounding playing 8hrs a night in Germany.if any of my old chums from the Honey Cavern days read these ramblings get in touch.Bob Brown & myself had a jam tonight,he sends his regards to all.hey Ken in Oz!,hope the info on Gwyn Lewis was of use.stay tuned folks,Wolfman

in reply to the question of what happened to bobby brown the bass player i can inform you that i am still alive!! i started playing with pete lovis and the tremelos later changed to the spirals in '62. Finished playing in '64 only to restart playing in portsmouth in the '70's. Playing with various bands and dance combos, the bingles ballroom band being one. Then I started with the country circuit playing with ron jones who was the person who introduced me to country music and appeared at Wembley Arena 1980. The following year whilst playing with the Perkins Brothers, winning the country band music competition at Wembly in 1981. I continued playing on the country circuit mainly with Memphis Short, touring the UK. My great aim is to get Alan Crompton (my old pal) out on the road again and playing. As there are many 'youngersters' out there who havent heard a real blues + rock player, playing locally. Is still playing from time to time but would to pluck the strings more often than what I am. Be great to hear back from anyone, other musicans and people who remember any of the bands mentioned.

Hey Srat Man!,great to read a reply from you,yep John street seems a lifetime ago,it's been a few years since I've seen Eddie, last I heard he was living in Brecon,he was the most sympathetic drummer I've played with,he seemed to know what I was going to play before I played it!,another great drummer I played in a heavy band in the early seventies was Alan Snell,my God was he powerful,he would hurt my ears!have'nt seen him for years, readers of this page may remember him playing in the Palace on some saturday nights when he was in a band called The Next of Kin,he was a real treat to work with.come on lads, pile in with your memories, cheers,Wolfman

Hello Wolfman or should I say Alan This is the definitive statement to the inception of the Cheating Harts. I was sat in the Queens cafe one morning when Mittell came and sat with me,he'd just came from the doctor who'd signed him on the sick, something wrong with his throat, therefore he could not continue to sing with the Bystanders(read that how you will). He had a car(a sunbeam rapier?) we went to Cardiff & bought some clothes(he bought a striped madras jacket) On our return we ended up in a pub in Dowlais with my brother Phil where we decided to form a band,,,,,,,,,I declined as I was working in Merthyr Vale colliery & going to college. The first rehearsals were in the Beehive pub with Ossie phillips on keyboard Phil walker & you on guitar,Graham morgan on base & Lyn on vocals & drums.Ossie didn't get to play a gig as he wasn't up to it. Many weeks later Eddie was brought in on drums & Jeff Lewis replaced Graham on base. The rest is history. Many gigs were to come ,Clydach ,Craig Cefn Parc etc, & best of all the Tivoli ballroom(Dewie drove the van) he kept talking about astral projection. I got to play a gig(unrehearsed) this year with Bobby Brown,Steve Shipman Jeff Lewis,Alan lefthand & Mr James, great fun it was too.Got another lined up for the Cefn club later this winter. Thats enough to be going on with. Lots more to tell. Kind regards Peter

Hello Peter, nice memories there! I must confess my memory is a little hazy on the get together in the Beehive, but sure do rmember those early gigs,& Dewie off on his astral projection thing,& he loved to talk about Crowley a lot.I emember a gig in Dowlais catholic club where Phil dived off stage & into a punch up!,to aid his mate who seemed to be on the losing end,I believe that was his last gig.things seemed to move along at a fair pace after that.was great to get Jeff in on bass,I stil reckon he's the only guy I know that could sing any part of a four part harmony & play bass at the same time!,he's got a great ear (I think it's the left one!) have'nt seen Phil since that night he did a Superman off the stage.well I guess my cover's blown!,take care,Wolfman

Hello Wolfman In my earlier message to you I refered to John Price as Mr James in a band line up,I think old age has finally got to me,,,apologies to John. I also remember Bluesmans dive off stage though I wasn't there that night,,,, as his brother I took a beating for it at the palace the following weekend. Good times
