Hello emrysjohn. Just a thought about PCC. As Troedyrhiw is close to Pentrebach, could the inscription relate to The Plymouth Collery or Plymouth Cricket Club perhaps?

Thanks Ken Yes I believe he was in my class in Gellifaelog and I can vaguely remember his face.He may have left school straight to work with his Dad or Merthyr Tech. on a building course as I initially did. I left Gellifaelog school in 62/63 Ken. Bye the way where in Oz are you Ken as I have just come back from a 3 month stay in NSW?

The Goitre Pond could be accessed up Goitre Lane which ran up the side of Gwaenfarren Baths. This was totally different to the Top Pond in the Park.

Good fishing in there with big Pike.Lots of swans that would attack you and weeds that would entangle you if you fell in or swam.

Are you sure it is Merthyr Tydfil as "Marine Store Keeper" suggests to me that the shop was near the sea and not 24 miles inland from Cardiff (nearest).Perhaps the link is Holywell where she apparently married. Bit of a trek in those days from Merthyr to Holywell as most people never left the area where they were born/brought up?

It must be Grove (off the dangerous hill) as Gwaunfarren Close is in Penydarren where we used to live.

When I went to school in Merthyr in the 50's and 60's there used to be a family called 'John' living in Penydarren. Norman John and his sister had a father called Albert John who was a Councillor at one time Mayor of Merthyr. May be worth making local enquiries?

It's a long time since I was in Merthyr but I remember The Grawen used to be along the Brecon Road towards Cyfarthfa Park
