Does anyone know if there was such an establishment at Quakers Yard ? Looking into some family research , a possible link has occured. Looking for a period sometime in the early 1900's . Hope you can help. THANKS.

i think there was such an establishment just outside treharris heading towards merthyr, and it was on the left just down off the main road, if im not mistaken it was demolished a few years back and there is a small housing estate there now

Hi, Jeff. Thanks for the info. Maybe now, I can get a few more leads. At least I know it did exist. Does anyone have a photo of the building, or know where I could access lists of those attending. Would the local police, for instance hold records, and are they accessible ?

I think you'll find, it was not known as a Borstal or Reform School, but Edwardsville Truants School. It's been many years now since I lived in Treharris,the last time I was there the building was used as an old peoples home. I think the building has been knocked down, and houses built there since.

I remember the old Truant's School in Edwardsville well. I had mates there but was far too well behaved to be a student myself. I was in Quaker's Yard Tech in 50/51 and we occasionally played football against them in the field below their school (in the shadow? of the Giant's Bite).Their teachers would frequently stop the game to count heads and one memorable game was stopped because their goalie had disappeared.
