I was evacuated from Deal, Kent and lived in Pentrebach and Abercanaid on and off from 1939 to 1944. Any other 'vacuees'out there? I recall the houses in Duffryn [now demolished] and attended Upper Pentrebach School [as it was then known] and Jesusalem Baptist Chapel. My mother, brother, granddparents all lived with different families in Pentrebach. We are still in touch with some freinds who took us into their homes. I recall Tym the Milk, lloyd the Shop Emery the Shop, Rees Traffic [he lived in The Duffryn] the brothers Williams [known as Tommy and Alf Duffryn] Padges Fish Shop, Jones The Club, Hammond The Postman, Trevor The Shop and his wife, Mrs Rees 'Goodmorning' FrankFoster,Dan Jones his wife Belva and son Idris and much more - from almost 70 years ago. Anybody interested?

Hi there, I found this forum today after a morning reminicing my dad who was also evacuated to this area from Deal. He (John) and his brother Norman Robinson (deceased) both went to stay at Troydyrhiw Farm. The farmer at the time was Will Jones, who had 2 sisters, Mavis and Lillian. My dad was born in Pontilanfraith and came to kent as a youngster when his dad came to work in the Kent Coal Fields. My Nanna (Muriel Chivers) was born in Risca and Grandad ( Edwin Robinson) in Aberfan.
My dad talked about his time at the farm most endearingly, clearly the happiest time of his childhood. I've decided to try and get him a scrap book together so he can take a look from time to time.
Regards Chrissi

Have just joined this site and saw your message. Twm Rees the milk was my great uncle and by 'Mrs Rees Goodmorning' you could mean his mother, my great gran. We lived next door along to Lloyd's shop. Trevor (Jones) was my uncle and of course Dan's wife Belva was his sister. Not having lived in Pentrebach for 40 years it's nice to come across someone who remembers all these characters. Did you know Olwen & Tudor Lewis?
Deborah.
