I am trying to trace my GG Grandfather John Griffiths, a coal miner. He was born in Merthyr i06/08/1849 and I have applied for a number of birth certificates from the GRO but I cannot find the right match. I do not know the names of his siblings, but on his marriage certificate his father is named also John Griffiths, Coal miner still alive in 1870. His son James Griffiths b.24/08/1870 was born in Blaenclydach, Rhondda and he did his hairdresser apprenticeship in a shop under the iron bridge in Merthyr. The shop was apparently owned by some relatives of his. James later opened his own hairdressers in Penygraig, Rhondda.
