Greetings I've had extraordinary difficulty tracking down my gggg-grandparents - I don't even know their dates of birth. I do know that they were John Williams of Merthyr Tydfil and Mary Powell of Devynnock, Breconshire (source: The History of the County of Brecknock by Theophilus Jones, published 1809 - he knew the Powell family). There is a marriage bond for 1778 on the NLW index for the above names, which describes John Williams as a glover of Merthyr Tydfil. In the Universal British Directory of 1791, there is a John Williams, skinner, listed as one of the principal inhabitants of Merthyr Tydfil. The children that I've located are: Elizabeth Williams m. William Jones Howell Williams, b. 1787, Brecon, according to the 1851 census --> m. Jane Robertson, 1816, and lived in Brecon (town) until their deaths Mary Williams, b. 1791, Merthyr Tydfil (1851 census) my ggg-grandmother --> m. Miles Jones, 1816, both also lived in Brecon town until their deaths With names like John, Mary, Williams, Powell, Jones, etc, it is darn near impossible to identify family members. If there is any way I could validate the Merthyr Tydfil connection I would be eternally grateful. Cheers Koromo

I was interested to read your posting. I am sorry I have no information that can help you locate your ancestors but I was wondering if you had any further information regarding the Williams who was a skinner? My ancestor David Sandilands was a skinner who travelled from Edinburgh to Merthyr where he married the Eliza Williams the daughter of a David Williams (haulier) and Sarah Goodwin in 1850. Despite much searching I have never been able to find any information about David and Sarah Williams (nee Goodwin) or any record in Wales of Eliza who was born in 1826. Good luck with you quest!
