John Jenkins owned the Thomastown Brickworks from 1865 & the family was involved until its closure. Does anyone know when the brickworks finally closed? John Jenkins was the first person elected to the first Glamorgan County Council, representing Merthyr Town. He married Elizabeth Price 1841-1894. It is believed one of her sisters married a Southey - owners of Merthyr Express. Son John Ernest was killed in WW1 1917. Another son Thomas was very involved with the Yeomanry & 3rd Sob Gwilym was apparently a bit of a ruffian/troublemaker. Mary his eldest daughter ran the business. Does anyone know anything about the Price connection? Anything on the three boys? What about Mary who married Richard Lloyd & they ran the the Barley Mow in Nantygwyneth Street (& possibly other hostelries).
