My father-in-law wrote down and passed on some stories of his childhood and some others passed down to him through his family. The following extract is about Elias Rees who is my wife's great great great grandfather.
"In 1846 Robert Crawshay got married and Elias Rees had an important part to play. He was required to fire a salute, using cannon from the Napoleonic War. We don't know whether the wedding took place before or after his conversion (unfortunately, he took to the bottle. ...Elias underwent a religious conversion and, after he had seen the light, drank only water); anyway everything went wrong and Elias produced a large explosion which blew up half the guests, including himself. He was temporarily blinded and, while recuperating, Crawshay's new wife (Rose Mary) called each day at Rees' humble dwelling to read to him. A nice story and wholly in keeping with the saintly Rose Mary Crawshay."
Has anyone come across this story or is just that.
