I have been told that my family ran the Royal Oak years ago (possibly 1920s or 30s) but my reason for posting is that I believe my family are connected to a Weale family from the Merthyr Tydfil area. Please feel free to contact me regarding this. It would be really interesting to know whether we are talking about the same family!

My grandfather, Robert H. Weale was the son of Rees (1873) and Margaret (1843) Weale. They also had 5 other sons and 1 daughter who were born and lived in the Merthyr area.

Google for Community Archives Wales . From their home page click The Groups. Scroll down to Troedyrhiw Environment Forum. Click and scroll down to Group Uploads. On the 3rd page of images there are two labelled Bridge Street. Chose the first and, if you use the magnifier you will just about be able to see the words ROYAL OAK on the pub wall above the group of men with horse and cart on the left. This building for as long as I can remember from growing up in Troedyrhiw in the 1950's and 60's has always been as it still is today the Ex Servicemen's Club. The attached photograph taken looking down a snowy and almost vehicle free Wyndham Street in the early 1960's shows the Ex Servicemens club at the end and, incidentally, the Wyndham Arms on the right.
