My two brothers went to Queens Road, Allen and Brian James. I was "brainy" I went to Cyfarthfa! Used to play on the Legion quite often both against Queens Road when in school and then when in the Saturday League playing against the likes of Miners Hall and OPs, playing for the Mount and the Morlais Cafe. If I remember right the Legion wasn't a bad pitch compared to somewhere like the Bont!!

Compared to the Bont the legion was like Wembley, after 90 minutes running around the Bont you felt seasick for the rest of the Day and the cuts and grazes took over a fortnight to heal ;D

You right there Jeff! I used to play in the Saturday league and loved playing on the Mountain Hare bottom pitch, but the top pitch was the better surface. Hoovers was another good pitch to play on. I used to play for my school Cyfarthfa against Queens Road and living in Twyn a lot of my friends used to play against me for Queens Road, well they were my friends until we played! We usually lost about 3-0 and above. Had players like Alan Fear and Howard Davies who usually took us all on by themselves and scored at will!

Why was the Legion field thus called? I never knew, even though it was down the road from me in Cae Mari Dwn.

I left for Australia in 1968 but have many memories of playing Football on the Legion, Bill Evans you speak of is I think the same MR Evans who lost his family in the ABerfan Disaster.
I have been back to Wales several times and still keep good mates with Geoff Snow but I often wonder what happened to some of my class..... David Farr.... Richard Hocking.... Gaynor Morgan and many more
