Hi
My ancestor was Thomas Williams aka Gwilym Morgannwg, a fairly well known bard and druid. I'm trying to find the location of 'Melin Gallan in the parish of Llandetty' which is listed as his place of birth in 1778. From speaking with others over the years it has been suggested that this mill was on the river Callan which feeds into the Pontsticill reservoir. The building is probably long gone but i'm wondering if anyone knows a way of finding out where it would have stood?
After leaving this mill the family moved to Pont-y-capel mill near Cefn-coed-y-cymmer which, again, i would love to try and find.
Help appreciated.
Thanks Gareth

Hello Gareth,
If you go onto the website National library of Scotland they have maps there that can be seen side by side and where the cursur is on the present map it is in the same position on the old maps. Zoom into Pontsticill reservoir just below it on the OS 25inch 1892 -1914 dated map it shows the site of Pontsticill Mill (disused)it gives compass bearing and GPS coordinates. This might be what you are looking for? If you search around the old map it shows the Gallen river/stream on the OS 6 inch 1883- 1913 old map. Also look in Cefn Coed it shows Pont-y-Capel brewery I think this may have been the Mill or close to it. Hope this is what you are looking for! Be Lucky Mike
