Hi, Seeking information on my Uncle George, I have found marriage registrar for Dec 1944 Quarter to a Blanche M Miles in Merthyr Tydfil. Uncle George was born 29/01/1902 at 13 Triangle, Pentrebach. Any Help would be most welcome. Also interested in researching his brother Richard Howard Williams born at the same above address in 1906. Thank you if you can help me. Kind Regards Paul Williams

Hello Paul Looking in Merthyr Express newspaper there is a marriage notice on page 2 or it might be page 3 of NOVEMBER 4th 1944 edition of a GEORGE EDWARD WILLIAMS of 4 LEWIS SQUARE ABERCANAID marrying BLANCHE M MILES of 32 BETHEL STREET GEORGETOWN MERTHYR TYDFIL Daughter of W.G.MILES (builder) at MERTHYR TYDFIL REGISTRARS OFFICE (special licence) on 28th October 1944. I Looked in an Electoral register I have and they were living at 32 BETHEL STREET in 1957.Hope this is helpful to you. Regards Mike

People married by special license when they wanted to get married in a hurry and without the necessity of waiting a month or so for the reading of the Banns. In general, a license speeds up the whole process and is especially common in times of war and when a soldier has to go off but it is also used in times of peace for various and many reasons. It could be that they were not 'settled' in the Parish, they were moving on elsewhere, did not belong to a Church / Chapel or they simply it not want to wait. A license is also fairly common in the marriage of young girls who are lying about their age but I am not suggesting that this was the reason in your case! Mike
