Hi, I hope someone can help me with this request. I am looking for information on the parents and family of my three times Great Grandparents, Hugh S. Jones(1827) and his wife Sarah R. Roberts(1834), (according to their grave marker they were both born on December 3 which seems a coincidence). According to what we have found Hugh was born in Merthyl Tydfil but I have no information about Sarah's birthplace. They were married in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts USA but I don't know when they moved to the USA. Sarah's parents were Phillip Roberts(abt 1815)and Mary Lewis(abt 1793) in Wales. At least one of these birthdates are probably incorrect as that would put her 22 years older than him and him 12 when their first child was born. Any information you could find on any of these people would be greatly appreciated including dates and occupations!

I am not having much luck in getting any information from anyone here on my Welsh ancestors. Can anyone provide help in the way of free sites online to research my Welsh side of the family? I am in the US. Thanks!

hello Chrisvic The problem you have is that the surnames are very common and registration only really started in 1837.Before then records are not very good and do not always give much info about the person/person's family, job, address, etc ,in some Parish records the parents are not given on marriage certificates and address just says of this parish which is not very helpful. There are Parish records and passenger sailing records on Ancestry.com website and Find My Past websites. The Morman church site Family Search can be very useful.Hope you have better luck in the future. All the best Mike

Thanks for filling me in, Mike! I did realize that they were pretty common names in Wales. I guess it isn't very hopeful that I will be able to find out too much more information. I am French/French Canadian on my Father's side and those records go way, way back because the Catholic Church kept such good records but not every country/religion did that at such an early date. Thanks for answering my post!
