I have two baptisms at Vaynor Church 1820 and 1822 with the address which looks like Godreu-y-fedw - The father is David Davies blacksmith, his wife Margaret - children baptised are Anna and Dina. Does anyone know of this place name? I assume it's close by.

I saw this old question perhaps it was the name of a farm?,Vaynor was a rural area. There was or is also a road in Cefn Coed called GODRE'R COED road but don't know if it still exists perhaps it was there and the name was later changed or near to there. Hope this helps. Mike

I had a look at an old Tithe map of the Parish of Vaynor 1842 .As you travel north towards Brecon on the right hand side of the road next up to the farm of LLWYN ON and before the farm of ABERCAR is the farm of GODRE R FEDW along side of the road, I would guess opposite where the reservoir is now perhaps?

Probably Godre'rfedw in standard Welsh meaning '(place at the) foot of the birch-wood' or '(place at the) foot of (place called) Y Fedw'. Possibly near the house Fedw (SO011119) near Llwyn-onn. Gwenfro
