Hello,
I am trying to record the history of Gwernllwyn Chapel in Dowlais.
If anyone has any information or memorabilia they would be willing to share, I would be very grateful.
Thanks

Hi - Unfortunately I have no information at the moment but I will try to provide some within the next few days. I do remember Richard Jones who was the minister there in the 60's, he was a bit of a character, a really nice man and a friend of the family, I believe he moved to the London area. Regards Richard

Hi - i have found out a little more, but probably no more than you already know. The chapel was opened in 1851, probably as an overflow for Bethania. The well known musician Harry Evans (born 1873 - died 1914) was the organist there for a while. During 1880 Josiah Towyn Jones, born in Newquay, was ordained as minister at Gwernllwyn as a young man in his early twenties. he remained there for about 5 years before moving to the Swansea area. He later became Liberal MP for Carmarthen East and later for Llanelli 1912 - 1922 all together. He died in 1922. if I do find any more of interest i will let you know. regards Richard
