I think that you must mean the excellent poet Idris Davies who was was born in Rhymney, Monmouthshire, but had very close links with Dowlais. After leaving school he worked underground in the local colliery. He began writing poetry and His first volume of poems, 'Gwalia Deserta' (1938), focused on the impact of the inter-war depression on south Wales. There is a poem in this collection which mentions Dowlais:- From memory only........ 'I stood on the ruins of Dowlais........' I recall one of his poems being about walking from Dowlais Top down to Merthyr Tydfil and being young and full of hope for the future. His poem about 'Church Bells' also mentions Dowlais. Another volume of his poetry, 'The Angry Summer' (1943) is composed of one long poem which documented the experiences of the south Wales industrial communities during the 1926 General Strike. He is a very good poet. Do you think a full scan of his poems mentioning Dowlais would be helpful???
