I've just found this site and hope Members can assist me with some research. My grandfather is Charles Edward Glascodine Simons (1867-1902). Charles was the third son of William Vazie Simons (1814- 1893). My father is Selwyn Barrett Glascodine Simons (1898 - 1985). My father never offered much info on his family history in Wales. I've only just become aware of information indicating that he may have served in WW1 in France, England and Ireland. He never spoke on any service in Europe during the WW1. I never had contact with any of my fathers relatives. He only communicated with a sister - Evelyn- who I believe lived in India. A lot of mystery here and I would appreciate any assist in my research from members of this forum. - Thanks (my email is: rsimons8@telus.net)

Other people on this forum may be pleased to know that we have made contact. My grandfather was Frederic Dyke Sydney Simons (1870-1938), the brother of Charles (and incidentally he married the sister of Charles' wife). We are still trying to find out more!
In particular there was a third brother, also William Vazie Simons (1861-1907), who was known as Vazie. He was a solicitor in Pontypridd and Merthyr; married Maud Marion Masters (1861-1935) while in Australia, and had three children. I have traced them a bit, and the children had a fairly hard start in life as their father committed suicide in 1907: Clara Maud Simons was a soprano and had a good career, but died young and unmarried (1891-1921); William Vazie Langdale Simons (1893-1918) - he was described as a colliery surveyor in 1911, joined the Artillery, won the MM in Egypt, transferred to the RAF and was killed in a flying accident in November 1918. Robert John Jermyn Simons (1894-1962) is my partial mystery. A colliery fitter in 1911, living in Merthyr Vale, he joined the Welch Regiment and thence the RAF as a fitter. I believe he returned to coal mining; he was given an emergency commission in the RE in 1940 but I believe returned to mining before the war ended. He died in Merthyr in 1962 and I would dearly love to hear from anyone who knows anything about his career in mining, any family he had, indeed anything about him at all.
