Memory is strange is it not? Or is it conscience? I recall travelling back to Aberfan from Merthyr. I'd board the double decker bus and, after settling down, and the vehicle well under way the bus conductor comes along shouting: "Fares please!" Guess what? Sometimes I'd keep my head down, especially on a packed bus, and get away with not having paid my fare! I'm not bragging you understand, merely, relating the tale and feeling a little ashamed. Hope the bus company did not go bust! This happened now and again during the early sixties. At the time I must have been about 11-15 years of age. Thereabouts. Has anyone else got any similiar tales to tell? Come on, confess!

I think you may be forgiven for not paying jeffrey. But I sincerely hope you never spat upstairs on the bus. Do you remember the signs prohibiting spitting? Apparently it was directed at the miners who suffered for 'dust' and were inclined to clear their chests while on board. Ah, the historical memories

Piper Nay-thrice nay! I do not recall the signs forbidding passengers not to spit; not pleasant for the cleaners was it? Pigs! I wish the use of mobile 'phones was banned on buses.

I removed a few cigarette stubber's, when I was 14 -15, why I don't know, I never smoked until I was 42. I kept them for years. (I'm a non smoker again BTW). We had the buses every day to take us from Treharris to Afon Taf, then home again. Some of the drivers would zig zag up the road and make the top deck swing back and for, great experience.
