My great great grandparents, Richard Duggan and Elizabeth Raymond were married in the English Independent Chapel on 8 June 1845. They emigrated to Australia between 1858 and 1862. One of their sons, Thomas, my great grandfather, became a Baptist lay preacher.
I am interested in learning more about the English Independent Chapel, its history and its views. I would also like to obtain photographs.
Can anyone help?

Hello, Even though there were several English Independent Chapels in Merthyr, the only one that would have been open in 1845 is Market Square Chapel. There is a photo of the chapel on the website - www.alangeorge.co.uk/chapelsandchurchs_pics2.htmI am currently writing a book about the chapels in Merthyr, and I have quite a lot of information about Market Square Chapel. You are welcome to e-mail me - stevie_b3945@yahoo.co.uk and I can let you have what information I hold. Steve
