Doese anyone remember the Blue Boar pub in Castle St dowlais. or the the Plough in Pendarren, or the pub on the corner in Walter St Dowlais, it brings back old memories,9 pence a pint in the old money. Ken

HI KEN YES I REMEMBER THE BLUE BOAR IN CASTLE ST I LIVED IN UPPER ELIZABETH ST AND I USED TO GO IN THERE TO GET MR MAHONEYS DRINK FOR HIM HE WAS BED RIDDEN FROM Ist WORLD WAR, MIND IT WAS A REAL DOSS HOUSE!!! THE LADS USED TO MEET AT THE MOUNT IN LOWER UNION ST

Hi Ken. I believe the last landlord, before it was demolished in the mid 60's, was John Scannell. Previously it was run by people named Hennessy. The Plough was on a corner of Plantation St. and ? ? Probably closed late 50's. The pub on the corner of Walter St., was The Carmarthen, there was another Carmarthen on High St. There are photos of both featured in "Dowlais".
