Hi Joseph, my uncle used to be the landlord of the log cabin (Plymouth Arms ) in Bridge street until it was demolished in the 60's. His name was albert (bert) Phipps and he ran the pub along with his wife Maud and my other Aunty who's name was joyce. I lived in Ebbw Vale but often used to stay with them as a young lad. I liked nothing better than sneaking into the back bar where they often had 3 or 4 blokes playing skiffle music on piano, tea chest (Base) and an old scrubbing board. I loved the place and although I was only a young lad at the time I got to know lots of the local characters. My uncle also had a firewood Business which he ran from dowlas just down the dip infront of the hospital. He used to deliver the firewood by Horse and cart then later by lorry. He used to have a comical little oldman called Danny who seemed to be perminantly drunk and always had a big grin on his face. I also rememberd a ginger haired lady who worked behind the bar, her name I think was Bron (Bronwin?). I have Quite a lot of pictures of the pub inside and out, and the staff I will look them out and post them for you in the coming weeks. I now live in Poole on the Dorset coast near Bournemouth Which is where my uncle and Auntie moved to after the pub was Knocked down (after a breif spell living on the gurnes estate. They are both dead now , he died first in the 80s and she followed quite quickley afterwards. regards Clive Morgan
