G'day all
My ancestor, John DAVIES (1834-1899) held the Park View Inn at 4 Brecon Road, Merthyr Tydfil from about 1866 to about 1887. He was listed there on the 1871 census:

His son Edward died at the pub in 1871:

John was mentioned as publican at the Park View in 1871 (Post Office Directory), 1873 (Directory to Merthyr Tydfil), 1875 (Worrall's Directory), 1876 (Mercer & Crocker's Directory) and 1884 (Kelly's Directory).
On the 1874 county rate assessment, he is shown as the occupier of the beer house at 3 and 4 Brecon Road. The owner was Ann MORGAN (his mother-in-law), and the gross estimated rental was 21 pounds (no amount was shown for the rateable value).
The family was listed there on the 1881 census:
1881 Apr 4: WLS GLA Merthyr Tydfil Brecon Road 4 Park View Inn: census:
DAVIES, John, h, m, 45, innkeeper, b Llandovery

[RG11 Piece 5317 ED 25 Folio 147 Page 10 Schedule 43].
The county rate assessment for the same year shows John Davies as occupier and Ann Morgan as owner, with gross estimated rental at 18 pounds and rateable value at 15 pounds 5 shillings.
About 1887, the family moved to the Wyndham Arms. (See my post under that thread for more information).
Please contact me if you know more about the Park View Inn.
Thanks.
