Hello from Danville, Pennsylvania USA. My parents are visiting Wales in August. I am of Welsh decent and I thought I would help my father out tracing ancestory. It would be great if he could find grave makers of our ancestors. He knows a hell of alot more than I do but he is computer illiterate My ancestors surname was Bryant He beleives they came from Merthhyr Tydfil. Samuel And Hanna (Sperring) Bryant, born 1811-1812 (father Joseph Sperring) move to US in or around 1837 and continued mining ore here. They had a son Joseph born there may 6 1833. Anyway, could anyone help me or point me in the right direction. I know their birth dates, perhaps I can start there and backtrack. Is there a census bureau? or records of birth office, I see there is a cemetary office. Thanks for your help in advance. Jason Mordan

On the negative side...........the records you mention do not exist for the period in time you require them.................. Official Civil Birth records were not made until the summer of 1837 and the census was first taken in 1841 ( no good if your ancestors travelled to the us IN 1837 AND I cannot find your family on the 1841 census.
On the positive side.............. good records were kept of christenings and I have found that of Joseph. He was christened not in Merthyr Tydfil but on the 9th June 1833 in Trevethin, Monmouthshire........... ( father Samuel and mother Hannah ). I have only viewed it on the index compiled by the Latter Day Saints............a library belonging to one of their churches might be able to get the full microfim copy for you. Batch No C024351, source call no. 0104918 Print call no. 0820538. The original records are in the Public Record Office, Kew, London
His father possibly worked at the;- Pentwyn Ironworks Trevithin Abersychan, Monmouthshire
But there would be no employment records for the 1830s. I hope that this assists you.............. the experts on this area would be the Gwent Family History Society

Thank you so much for your time, that was very helpful. My dad originally thought ancestory was from Mertyr Tydfil, but upon hearing this, things connected as a friend of his from Wales told him that Hanna (Sperring) Bryant, the Sperrings were from Monmouthshire area. Thanks again. Oh, the Gwent Family History office, what would a day-visitor from the states have to know before going to do a little resesarch, services?, fees? etc.? Thanks again Jason
