Hi all, here's a last appeal for any help before I shell out the hard earned cash for a researcher in Wales to do some running for me. I have had no luck at all tracking my ancestor in Merthyr Tydfil. William Henry Jackson born 1877 son of John Jackson a deceased ( in 1898 ) police Constable. I have no evidence as to there POB but it is believed to be Ireland. William was a colliery labourer in 1898 and lived in Quarry Row which I believe is near the old site of the Ironworks at cefn coed y cymmer. In 1901 he is shown in the census as a Locomotive engine driver and living at 3 sunnybank with his wife Sarah Mitchell. William's son John Jackson born 1900 married his wife Irene Annie Phelps in Merthyr. She had attended the Castle school. They all moved to Pontypridd with the railway on promotion around 1930. Later the family moved to Minnie St in Cardiff, again with the railway. I believe William was either buried or cremated in Pontypridd but I do not know when. Sorry this is pretty vague but my family have been less than useless. Any help appreciated. I would like to find any employment records or any paperwork which would give place of birth for William.

Just a quick update. I have found the elusive Jacksons in Brecon. William Henry Jackson used the name Henry Jackson which caused no end of problems. His father John Jackson was a drummer in the 23rd Regt of foot based in Brecon. He was posted to Ireland around 1870 and William Henry was born in West Meath in 1873 to Maria Ball from Brecon. As he only lived in Ireland a year or two it explains why Cefn was given as his POB and not Ireland. Does anyone do any research with the Union poorhouse records in Merthyr. The family ended up there in the 1890's and I'd like to find out what happended. I have found one as a servant in sussex , one died in the poorhouse giving birth and the other diappears. Any help appreciated.
