One of our members 'James' posted this in the Blain Dowlais discussion, I felt it would be better answered on its own:
"My great grandmother, Maria James was born at Penwaunfawr, Lower Merthry Tydfill (or Dowlais). She was born approx 1844 and married at Zoar Chapel, Merthyr Tydfill 30th July 1870. I have been trying to locate Penwaunfawr and Zoar Chapel but with no luck. If anyone could help I would be very grateful." Anne

Zoar, Independent, High Street, Pontmorlais cf47 8ub Contact Gwynfor Morgan Tel. 01685 370493 However, there was more than one Zoar Chapel in the Borough. Zoar, Pontmorlais was one of the first chapels here to be licensed to hold marrIage services BUT IT WOULD NOT HAVE HAD A LICENSE TO KEEP THE RECORD. Only the churches here NOT the chapels kept any record of marraiges.
