hello my name is sian hubbard, nee watkins. ;D me and my daughter are researching our family history on both sides of my family.. we come across your site via yahoo whilst searching for pengarnddu and was very suprised to get a result.
i know there are lots of photo's of merthyr tydfil and dowlais but i was wondering if anyone had anymore or if they have any information of frances street in dowlais or company row pengarnddu?
or any other photo's of history of the surrounding area...i know this is probably a long shot but hey u can't get anywhere without asking....
we're currently searching the watkins, davies and scourfield parts of the family and most of them were in dowlais or merthyr. Brilliant site! a real walk down memory lane.

Would you happen to know anything about the William Davies family of Thomas Street or Newton Street in Merthyr?

My name is John Thomas. I lived in pengarnddu at 3 school row. My father was App Thomas, mother Olwen, sister Megan. We moved to the flats in Dowlais in the 60S. JENNY davies ( Thomas) was my fathers twin sister so we are probably related . I now live in Gelligear and have 3 children. When I lived in dowlais I worked in Woolworths. I remember betty and Edna well as the house that they lived in had a garden that faced the back of our house . I had other relatives in Pengarnddu, Jean and Gwineth Jones, (Dai) David , and Louis Thomas and I am related to Levi, George & Harold Sinnet who lived in Clond**e . All the best John.

HI DORIS Sorry for the late reply my details were not on the system correctly, when I lived in dowlais we lived in the flats my dad died at 63 and my mum at 75 my mother still lived in the flats till her death. I moved about with Woolworth and ended up in Reading I then left the company and returned home I was courting a girl from pant called Christine Law who is now my wife. I then worked for Tesco as a store manager and regionl manager for 21yrs and then as a manager with Makro where I retired last year . We have three children Natalie 36 Caroline 34 and Mark 22. Natalie has two girls 2and 4yrs Caroline a boy 3yrs Mark has been to university in YORK and has now got his degree and is looking for work. Natalie is an accountant lives in Llantrisant and Caroline is a school teacher living in Worksop near Sheffield. Now that im retired I often go to Pengarnddu and walk out to the Twynau on the track and up to pond pit past the farm where my dad spent a lot of his time. supprised you remember my mother did not like thunder she also hated strong winds and in Pengarnddu they were strong many a night I spent in the larder in the passage with her. I only have one picture of my dad on tum his horse by the gate to the field at the bottom of the long row of houses by the bridge. My sister Megan his 72 now and lives in Troedyrhiw I will ask her if she has any pictures ,keep in touch.
Thanks for your reply
All the best John.

John You refer to the Sinnets of Penganddu and I wonder whether they were related to the Sinnet's of Blaen Dowlais (see my other thread) as it is an unusual name? Your name is Thomas and my relations were Davies's/ Thomas's who moved up from Newport west Wales just before the Cholera outbreak took some of the family. Mary and her four children lived with and were brought up by the Sinnet's, as Margaret Sinnet (nee Thomas) was the sister of Mary.
