In 1910 my Grandfather, William John Parry, gave his mother's (Mary Ann Davies) address as #44 Castle St., Merthyr. Was that the address of the Rainbow Inn where she and her 2nd husband, Thomas Davies, were the proprietors? I know the pub is no longer there, but what is there now? Is it far from the Castle Hotel that was built in the 1970's? Thanks in adavance...Gaie

I don't believe that there is anything now on the site of the old Rainbow Inn............. except the large open space which is the entrance to the Merthyr bus station. It was quite near to the present Castle Hotel, but not next door. Last week I did walk along that side of Castle Street to check, but I found that there was not one visible number, however people have described the location to me as 'where the bus station is now'.

Thank-you Carolyn Jacob for taking the time to walk down Castle St in search of #44 site. I suspected that the location of the Rainbow Inn is now part of the bus station but it's great to know for sure. Thanks again. Gaie
