Hi all,
Does anyone have a list, or know how to obtain a list, of the Dowlais and Merthyr Iron Workers who went to work in Decazeville in Southern France in the 1830s-1840s?
I have managed to find one Taylor ancestor's birth in 1841 in the Decazeville Archive. She was the daughter of John Taylor and Jane Harris. I am now looking for any information on John and Mary Harris. Their children John, Thomas, Jane and William were all born in France between 1837 - 1842.
I believe John Harris is Jane's brother and as her daughter was born in Decazeville France I am assuming John's children may also have been born there.
I've searched the baptism records, but couldn't find anything, so I am wondering if there are other records, such as lists of workers?
All help much appreciated.
Kind Regards, Clansman68

Dear all, I am a French librarian and I am currently working on the Welsh ironworkers in Decazeville. I am preparing a website with a list of workers. I will send you the link if you are interested. For John Taylor, I can have a look on the records I have already collected if Clansman68 is still looking for information. Just let me know. Thank you and kind regards, Alex

I would be very interested in having the link to your website. My husband's great grandfather x 2, William Richards, was one of a group of Merthyr ironworkers recruited to go to Decazeville to help set up the iron industry there. I have some information on him and his family while they were in France, so I would be interested to see if you have further details. Thank you
