Hello all, I am trying to locate an older article on the Chartist movement. It was cited as the source in a book for a statement about reports by a spy on the Merthyr Chartist movement, so I am hoping this article either has the original information, or cites where those original reports are. The Glamorgan History society doesn't list issues back to 1971, so I have no idea where else to look for such an old issue. Anyone? Here is the citation:
Angela V. John, 'The Chartist endurance: industrial South Wales, 1840-68', Morgannwg: The Journal of Glamorgan History 15 (1971), 23-49.
Thanks, Jeremy

You might find some related information in the book by E.D. Lewis -"The Rhondda Valleys" published in the 1960s.
I am sure that local libraries would have a copy. If you don't live locally, and can't locate it, then I could have a quick look in our copy. (The book was written by my Husband's uncle while or just after, he was Principal of Barry Training college.
I don't have a lot of time, but will look in the index if you can't locate the book. Sincerely, Rachel Bowen

Have you tried Glamorgan Record Office, the Library in Merthyr Tydfil? A long shot might be the Merthyr Express. They ran a piece on the Chartists & Vulcan House some years back. Whoever wrote the article might be able to help.
