Hey everyone! My grandfather x 3 called James Creese, was a publican in Merthyr between 1852 and 1862. The family are in the 1861 Census. Does anyone know which pub stood there at that time? Cheers!

May have been the Half Moon but will have to check further. It would have been on same side and quite near to Wm. Barnes, Poultry Foods etc

Hello chriske47 There are names and locations of pubs marked on the 1851 map of Merthyr ,they are not very clear to read and probably not all are marked . There were public houses and also beerhouses ,what exactly the differance was i don't know. On the map there are 5 PUBLIC HOUSES marked THE RED LION THE BEEHIVE THE LAMB INN THE CASTLE HOUSE ? ( i think ) not very clear to read THE ?? ? unable to read THE CASTLE HOUSE (? ) is the nearest to where no29 CASTLE STREET would have been i would say. THE CASTLE HOTEL was at the other end of the street and is marked as such. no street numbers are marked. The names of the pubs might have changed later. The licence records for pubs should be held at GLAMORGAN ARCHIVES in CARDIFF they might be more helpful !!. mike
