Any cricket fans out there who can tell me anything about the Glamorgan Colts in the 1980's? I have an ancestor who played for them at Cardiff Arms Park in 1893 against Glamorgan. Any ideas where I can try for more information?
Thanks Clare

Hi Clare. Yes will be able to help you. What was your ancestors name?
Glamorgan beat Glamorgan Colts by 6 wickets in a 2 day game on 22nd & 23rd May 1893.
In fact Glamorgan batted with 11 players and the Colts with 22!!!!!
Colts in their first innings were 95 all out (for the loss of 21 wickets) in 63.3 overs. Glamorgan replied with 187 all out (loss of 10 wickets) off 94.2 overs. Colts then declared their second innings 167 for loss of 18 wixckets off 72.1 overs. Glamorgan then hit 78 for 4 off 39 overs to win by 6 wickets!

Hi Dave - I found on cricketarchive.com details of a game he played in. His name was Silas William Eagles Turner. Didn't appear to have scored any runs! Would he have played for the Colts for a while do you think? Someone said he may have moved to Oxfordshire later in his "career". Don't know much about cricket I'm afraid, but any further info you have would be much appreciated
Thanks Clare

Hello Clare.
Cricket Archive is an amazing site! How did you get to know that your ancestor played for Glamorgan Colts in 1893?
Andrew Hignell the Glamorgan Archivist / Historian / Scorer at the Club and is well worth contacting to see if he can find out more about Silas Turner. The new Museum at the ground is currently being built and you never know, he might be able to locate a photo of the game.
Take Care
Dave
