The Myth of the Council workman, With his Shovel crutch to see, Is something that has always been, And is something that will always be, So keep your voices quiet , In case you do disturb The Might of the British Workforce , That’s standing at the kerb, A proudly standing figure, That’s full of bone and muscle That springs so fast to action, At the Evenings finishing whistle, To hurry home to his arm chair rest, To call for his Evening tea, And moan how hard he’s had to work, And the days End he’s glad to see, So you People all lie safely , When in your beds you rest , To know the Countrys safe and sound , For he really does his Best.,
For you see,I Was a Council Workman, ( myself )
