I'm currently in the process of writing a book about the chapels in Merthyr, and I am desperately looking for photos of all the old chapels.
I have had a lot of help from Merthyr and Dowlais Libraries - but there are a few photos I am missing, so if anyone has photos of the following chapels that I can have copies of to use in my book I would be very grateful:-
Pontmorlais Chapel, Merthyr Ainon Chapel, Merthyr Morlais Chapel (where Salvation Army now stands)
Hermon Chapel, Dowlais Noddfa Chapel, Penydarren
Bethania Chapel, Treharris
Horeb Chapel, Quakers Yard Ebenezer Chapel, Quakers Yard
If anyone can help, please get in touch on this board or email me at stevie_b3945@yahoo.co.uk
Many thanks

I have a website on Welsh Chapels and churches www.welshchapelsandchurches.org/I have some photos on there of Merthyr chapels but I don't recall the ones you mention, though I often wish I could dl my photographic memory of places. ;-)) Please look on my site and at the links as there are two other people who have decided to collect photos of these buildings shown there.

The christening place for Margaret Bevan (20 Jan 1811) is listed as Merthyr Tydfil on the family search site "England and Wales, Non-Conformist Record Indexes (RG4-8). These records are of the "Wesleyan Chapel of Merthyr Tydfil" I think this is Pontmorlais Chapel. Could someone direct me to this photo? Thank you!

Hello,
The Chapel you are referring to is Wesley Chapel which is still standing, but is now empty.
Pontmorlais Chapel was the Calvinistic Methodist Chapel which was opposite.
If you e-mail me on stevebrewer68@hotmail.co.uk I can send you some photographs of Weslet Chapel, and some information about it.
Steve

Is this the book that was launched at the Glamorgan Family History Society Open Day held in town a few months back. ? 'Sold out' rather quickly so I still seek a copy. How do I go about obtaining one. ? My first post here so a quick introduction. I am interested in all thing related to Glamorgan chapels. My own website at www.pillars-of-faith.com concentrates on Rhondda Chapels (that is where I was born, bred & still live) I am also currently (maybe foolishly) attempting an on-line database of the careers of Nonconformist Ministers of Glamorgan
