:)Does anyone remember the record shop in the old arcade. Or Pages dress shop, or The Mapole grocers. I worked at the record shop. it was my first job when leaving school in 1956. Mt mother worked in Pages and my uncle worked at the Mapole. I went to Quaker's Yard school from 1952 - 1956 is there anyone out there who was there at that time or knows of anyone who was or if they have the school photographs from those years. I lived at Brickfield Crescent Twynrodyn and can still remember most of the people who lived there at the time.

Pottonbeach: It was my great great grandfather who owned the Thomas Town brickworks. If you lived in Brickfield Crescent in the 1950s, do you know the date your houses were built? 1947 has been suggested to me but I have not found definitive proof. Do you have contact with any families that might have been involved with the brickworks? If so, it would be interesting to know when the business closed. We think circa 1920 but again no proof. If the above dates are correct when was the brickworks demolished & what happened between 1920 & 1947?? Lots more questions if you can help! Thanks.

Minstrel
I can only remember that my dad came back from the war around 1946 and we moved to Brickfield Crescent not long after that. So it's possiible your dates are correct. I'm afraid I am unable to help you with any details of when the brickworks closed.

I have just seen the photo Marie Galeozzie sent in of her family. My Grandmother's name was Louisa Galeozzie and she lived at Glebeland street and then moved to Twynrodyn she was married to my Grandfather Will Edwards. I know she had at least two sisters who lived close by when she lived at Glebeland street. Is there a conection. I have been trying to trace where in Italy my great grandfather came from. Any help please.

The Brickworks in Thomas Town was entered from just above Courtland Tce., and Queens Road and was probably turned into Council house dwellings in 1947. I can remember walking through the brickworks many times, coming home from town and school. It must have been about this time, as we moved away in 1949.
To discover when Brickfield Crescent was built, you need to look at Trade and Post Office Directories and bear in mind that they take a year to compile and print, so a 1948 directory would give 1947 details. You could also look at Electoral Rolls. All these should be in Merthyr Library.
Hope this helps.
