My memories of Malcolm were that while he could be violent and I saw that at first hand he could also be a nice guy.I remember on one occasion him singing "Ho for the wings of the wings of a dove"in The Old Express back in the 60's when Mr and Mrs Lloyd were landlords. He informed me that he had been a choirboy in his youth.Surprising he gave a wonderful rendition of it that night and even if he hadn't nobody would have been brave or stupid enough to have told him so. I actually taped it on a small Sony tape recorder but I am afraid it was recorded over a long, long time ago.

Yeh, I remember Mal, one tough hombre after a few pints, but when sober he was pleasant enough. Last I heard of him was that the young toughies would have a go at him, trying to get a reputation for themselves. Live by the sword etc.
Tony.

I saw the a---e hole in the palace dance one sat day night in 1964 king hit a drunken bloke, who was a 9stone weakling 5 foot six inches tall dripping wet right between the eyes,BECAUSE he anoyed him, knocked this bloke out,the draged him out on the foot path and left him told management he was fighting in the dance, the a--se hole at the time was a bouncer in the dance, and you people choose to glorify him in a book,he was a thug a criminal and a good for nothing waster.

Hello everyone, I am always surprised that boxing is encouraged and glorified. Boxing causes serious brain damage, even if only done for a short time. The brain damage is irreversible and among other problems can cause changes in behaviour. Many boxers came from poor backgrounds, and it was the only way for them to earn a living. We should have pity on their state, but whatever we do, we should not encourage anyone to start boxing. Sincerely, Rachel Bowen

both my sons box and have done really well and my oldest son boxes for wales hes been all over the place glassgo and ireland and they are both trainers as well and its helped them to keep fit look after themself and they ve never been in trouble with the police or anyone, boxing as taught them to look after themself but because you can fight doesnt mean you have to, i know theres injurys but you can get that with any sport, anthony runs 5 times aweek and in the gym 3 or 4 times aweek and he works, his boxing means alot to him, hes 25 and hes done it since he was10 and its in the family as his father did it and my uncle did it but he wasnt push into it, he went along himself

I agree with both Dopey1 and Cos. My father was a boxer, picked for Golden Gloves, but the second world war stopped it. He represented the Navy. My son took it up purely for fitness and confidence. And now they use boxing as a fitness exercise in a lot of gyms. It teaches people discipline and self pride. However, when it goes wrong, like Malcolm Price, then it goes horribly wrong. I remember weekends in Merthyr when you'd be walking down the High Street on the other side to him and he would deliberately come over and bump into and then accuse you of wanting to start a fight - yeah right I'm five foot six and at that time couldn't punch my way out of a water paper bag (somewhat heavier now, but still couldn't!). I remember one episode when me and my friends were queueing up outside Hing Hongs, at that time it was the only kind of restaurant open at night. We were in a big queue and MP just barged in before us. My friend (I blame the alcohol!) said something like "excuse me the back of the queue is up there" Without a word MP just headbutted him and sent him sprawling. Needless to say, although there were four of us we didn't want to argue the point so left the queue. He was not a very nice man and in particular gave boxing a bad name, because as far as I'm aware he didn't do too much good in the ring, just a big BULLY out of it who lives on his reputation. Incomplete contrast when you saw someone like Howard Winstone or Johnny Owen, complete gentlemen
