Are any members/guests interested in a collaborative mapping of today's Merthyr, using up-to-date local information blended with history, memories and links? I'm working on a project to introduce OpenStreetMap in Merthyr, for community development and as part of the wellbeing program in Wales Public Health. I'm looking for community interest groups locally who have got something to say and would benefit from training/mentorship to empower their projects by using OSM. OpenStreetMap is a public forum for members (simple and inclusive, secure username signup) to record knowledge and also campaign for change. It indexes Wikimedia entries on points of interest like monuments, and can connect satellite imagery of public buildings and paths/highways with local knowledge. Maps like this can be made by the community, for the community: umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/map/bryneithinog-walk-tom-bronnant-sound-archive_624114#13/52.2586/-3.8387To discuss this free participatory project, please get in touch: mail@rupertallan.com
