We recently received this request by email
Dear Alan,
My name is Jessika Barcynski, I am presently Researching at Phil McIntyre Television working for a new programme ‘Porridge: 40 Years Behind Bars’ which is currently in pre- production. I have come across your great website Old Merthyr Tydfil and I thought it might be worth contacting you to see if you might be able to help? Please find a Programme Synopsis below and further information of my request.
Programme Synopsis:
Porridge: 40 Years Behind Bars
2014 marks the 40th anniversary of Britain ’s best-loved sitcom, Porridge. To celebrate, Phil McIntyre Television, has been commissioned to produce three one-hour documentaries which tell the complete story of this iconic comedy.
These films are made in conjunction with the original writers of Porridge, Dick Clement & Ian La Frenais. Over three hour-long episodes, we tell the real story behind the much-loved series. With contributions from former cast members and production crew, celebrity fans and writers.
To keep with the original theme of Porridge, we plan to film at all the locations that were used in the making of the comedy. This will hopefully include various locations in Wales such as Bedlinog village and also Ystrad Mynach Train Station which was used in the pilot of Porridge originally named ‘Prisoner and Escort’.
Our Request:
We are looking to speak with local people of Bedlinog or surrounding areas who are fans of Porridge and who may have been around when Ronnie Barker and the cast/crew were filming the iconic programme; this will have been 1973/74. We are hoping to speak with people who may have exciting anecdotes from that time and who would be happy to talk with us further. For additional information, please contact Jessika on 0203 393 0368 or at jessika.barcynski@philmcintyretv.co.uk If there is anywhere you might be able to publish this information locally then please do feel free.
Many thanks for your time, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions- my direct line is in my signature below.
Best Regards,
Jessika
