I was at Troedyrhiw Juniors from 1967 to 1971,I spent about two and half years at the original juniors before our move to the old Senior School. Gwyn Thomas was my teacher in year one he then retired and Anne Norman nee Jones took over.
I have vague memories of portacabins being used for toilets when we moved over to the old Seniors building. In 1970 the teachers were Miss Anne Jones, Carmen Davies, Richard Mathias aka Dickie Dap, Veronica Jones??, David Jones and the music teacher was Gareth Jones. The atmosphere in the "new school" didnt seem to be as austere as the old juniors on the square. and there were frequent trips to the park for gasmes lessons and nature study.
I have fond memories of end of term Summer outings with Troedyrhiw Juniors. We would normally go to Cardiff Museum and then go on to either Porthcawl or Barry Island.
Never saw much of the teachers when we got to the seaside they probably went off for a cuppa or something stronger whilst us kids went to the Fun House and Porthcawls famously naff Louis Tussauds. Louis Tussauds was rubbish, the wax models bore hardly any resemblance to their real life counterparts.
I was there in the early/mid 70's (72-76). Gareth Jones was my first teacher then Carmen Davies, Gail Rees. My old mate Steven Roberts (stage name Steven Spiers now) would put on performances of stories he'd written around the Frank Spencer character from 'Some mothers do' ave em. We used to do our cycling proficiency around the yard which was marked out for that.
