Hi I can't believe there is no one out there that remembers John street in the 50s. I would so like to chat with old neighbors and long lost friends . someone may remember our next door neighbours Ada and John Rees He was groundsman at Pennydarren park for years .He had artificial legs. Though to watch him walking unaided [not even a stick] you would never have known. I know it's a long time ago but put your thinking caps on PLEASE!!! thanks Bet

At last someone remembers John St. Did you live there in the 50s? if so what is your first name . The only Williams I can recal in the 50s were an elderly couple and their granddaughter Lorraine.

Well, I was only born in 1962 but my family lived there.
Morris was the family name and we lived at the bottom of the street near the weighbridge.

Thanks for replying . I had already left Merthyr to live in Kent before you were born. I can't remember anyone with the surname morris [but then i'm probably having a SENIOR MOMENT] as I don't recall a weighbridge either.I'll have to ask my 90yr old dad if he remembers the name or the weighbridge . Where abouts in georgetown was the weighbridge?anyway thanks for your help. Bet

The weighbridge was in the Coal Trading yard at the end of John Street on Aberdare road (leading up to Heolgerrig)

Hi I've been using the old grey matter to try and remember anyone that lived your end of the street[we lived the georgetown school end]The only people I can think of areTrevor Gilroy and family and I think Tommy Jones lived there also. The names you gave me for your relatives would that have been your grandparents? If so did your parents also live there?Sorry to be so vague but I so want to try and remember as many people as possible. Because of your reply I have remembered the Gilroy,s whom I had forgotten It sometimes takes just one comment to start us remembering other people and events. regards Bet
