how about a list of those that gave their lives in the disaster, a sort memoriam, lest they shall never be forgotten

I think that's a good idea, I'll see if I can get the information. Alan

I am very pleased to see the names of the deceased, I have been looking for confirmation of a story that relatives were lost in that disaster. Their names are on the list and although I never met them it is very sad. They were Gwyneth Collins and her boys.

Hi everyone.
It was before my time but i used to go to school in Aberfan (Ynysowen) from 1988 - 1990. We had a school trip to show us where the old grounds were and it was just so sad.
I have been trying to get the Jeremy Vine show to do a radio programme on it but i have not had a reply from the BBC yet.
It does seem though that people today do not seem to care anymore which is a real big shame.
I do have a little post on my F1 forum about the Aberfan disaster as its the 40th anniversary this year.
I now live in England and they do seem to care more about it here.

HI Adrian , You probably don't remember me -Laurence James. Iwas in Quakers Yard then moved to Afon Taf. It all seems a very long time ago. I remember we all walked from QYGS to Aberfan on that fateful morning. Imoved from Merthyr in 1972 to London then in 1984 moved to the Algarve to teach. Came back to Head a school in Malvern 1995 and now have my own school in Cheltenham.

I remember sitting in a car on the waste land next to Thomas's fish shop when the news began to come through of the tip engulfing Pantglas School; it's giving me shivers as I write. My brother was in the Civil Defence at the time (why did we disband that, but I digress)I don't think he slept much that week.
