Hi jonpountney, I lived in the same street in Penydarren as Geoff Vaughan, the Bass player in this Band. I'm not 100% certain, but the name CHAPTER FIVE keeps running round in my head. ?? I was in a Band that played the Castle Cinema on a number of Saturday mornings. We started off as a 5 piece playing 60's covers by Small Faces etc. The 5 piece line up was :- Paul Leaker - Lead Guitar ( He was a dab hand with electronics and made mic's from Sarson's vinegar plastic bottles.) Phil Davies - Rhythm Guitar ( Ashamedly, I cracked Phil across the head with a Drumstick once for chatting to my girlfriend. Sorry pal, stupid thing for me to do) Derek Lloyd - Bass Guitar ( Brother of Clive Lloyd (Footballer, Norwich,Hereford, Merthyr etc) Derek was also no mean Footballer himself ) Phil Hagerty - Vocals ( Don't think Phil wanted to be in the Band really, but he was Derek's buddy and looked like one of the Small Faces ) Mansel Lewis - Drums (Olympic Red wine kit from Gamlins £104.00 paid for by my Gran. She passed away on the day after the final HP payment....!!)
The 5 piece soon became a Trio, Paul Leaker, Phil Davies & Mansel Lewis and we rehearsed weekly at the Glamorgan Arms. For our gig at the Castle cinema we loaded all the gear on a cart and did the short journey to the Castle via the British Tip. Heck of a lot easier going down than coming back up ! I remember, one Saturday morning, playing on the Stage that had been set up for Herman's Hermits/Mindbenders/Phil Gaye Combo etc. We thought it was great to leave a small written message on the front of the stage "Tough Herman, we were here first". As if Peter Noone cared ! We were told by the Cinema Manager that when Pete Lovis was putting the line up together for the Show, he had come to see us. Never got to know what he thought, but we couldn't have impressed him too much I guess. The Merthyr Express published a photo of the Band about 10 years ago on the 'Who's who' page. I've been told that someone replied putting names to the faces, but said that they didn't think any of the Band continued with music........."U-hum" Hello !!!!...........Mansel

It's a pleasure Alan. I'm just delighted to have a few active brain cells left. By the way, I was shocked to hear about Alan Edwards, hope he makes a full recovery.

Hi Alan No, not on Facebook. I was when we first moved to Spain but I copped for a torrent of abuse from a complete idiot. Worked out to be Keyboards player who got the hump when I left his band, then his mates seemed to jump on the bandwagon. Anyway, left me in a state where I dreaded switching the computer on and the only thing to do was quit Facebook. Shame because I have Band mates in Thailand and Australia and we used it to keep in touch almost daily. Might have another go one day.

Hi Bobby,
Good to hear from you. What you up to these days ? I think the last time we met, you were running a Music Shop in town.
Came across a 'You tube' video of you playing at Café Cwtch ?? Sounded good, as usual.
I've ended up in Yorkshire after 22 years on the Isle of Man, and then 8 years in Spain. Still got the Drums ( Acoustic & Electric ) plus a huge amount of PA gear etc. etc. Keep meaning to have a clear out, but................
Get down to Merthyr whenever we can. My Mum and Dad have both passed away now, but I still have family in Penydarren.
All the best
PS - Have a question about the band 'Wild Honey'. I'm obviously having a Senior moment, but for the life of me I just cannot remember why Dougie Neagle's face is so familiar. I feel I know him so well, but my brain isn't telling me why. Put me out of my misery please, and bring on the embarrassment !!
Aha ! Taken a while but I may have figured it out....FOOTBALL ? We may have played together at either Castle Rangers, Dowlais Labour Club or OP Chocolates. Think he was Goalkeeper - good too !

Lots of names from the past on here, used to be very friendly with Bobby Watkins, done a bit of travelling with him when he was with the Time Machine, members included Ken Arthur,Stuart Davies(the cobbler),Kieth Sussex. The old Ford Thames van humping gear into village halls around the valleys, and latterly at Troedyrhiw Labour Club,1969.Can also list Bobby Brown as a good friend,Also Walter Williams of the 4 squares fame. Loved the Dynatones at the Palace and The Desfanados at the Lines dance.lots of bands at the Drill Hall late 1960's. Heolgerrig Club was a favourite too.

Hello Mr W Sir ! Great news that mate. Send my regards to Bobby Brown. I really must catch up with him on my next visit. It's a bit complicated these days because our visits to Merthyr are in our Motorhome (Sounds posh that...just a big Campervan really). But now that my parents have passed on there's no 'Family home' as such, so we bring the Bus down and stay at a local Campsite. Having a few jars in the Imperial is probably not an option in the circumstances because Diane can't drive the Bus back to the Campsite. However, where there's a will there's a way,eh ? Should be down around first week in December. Nice to say that I blew the cobwebs off the kit last Saturday night. Black tie Function at a large Golf Club in South Yorkshire. Went very well. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyway, nice to hear from you. Take care P !
