My father, Mervyn (Mel) Adams used to work at Hoover's factory, Pentrebach, many years ago-he hated it there! Anyone remember him? Died four years ago aged 88 years. Also known as Edward.

Thanks for your comments. Sorry about both your fathers'deaths. Seems such a shame to look forward to retirement and Death swoops down unexpectedly. Neither names mean anything to me as I never worked at Hoovers. I did work at Deep Nav pit(Treharris) as an apprentice, however, for a year. Three months of which I was placed at the coal face-ugh! I used to board the 4.50 a.m. bus outside the Mac hotel.Aberfan. I hated it! Even the birds were still snoring! Sometimes I'd lay in bed and beg mother not to tell father who never checked on me. Still it was an experience.

Sad to see Hoovers going. My father and my half brother and sister all worked there. I still remember the childrens Christmas parties in the staff canteen and the cricket matches and stalls at the summer fete.

My late father also worked at Hoover Ltd for some 25 years. His name was David Rowland Evans (Dai or Dai Rowley) and he was a maintenence electrician there. Dad was renowned for fixing TV's and radios etc and I recall the Christmas parties, following the soccer team and attending the sw radio club held in the pavillion at the bottom of the playing fields. I also recall, the amateur boxing tornaments that were held regularly and which my father would help provide the lighting for. Good days!
