I'm trying to find info about William Powell, born Llanspyddid nr Brecon approx 1795 (based on census data) who lived in Mountain Hare and had a house on Penheolferthyr and on Mardy St (according to his Will). In 1841 census his wife is Mary aged 35 born in Glamorgan. I'd like to find William and Mary's marriage if possible. I don't know Mary's maiden name or the date of marriage but they had a daughter Margaret b 1828 (who incidentally married David Morgan who became landlord of The Farmers Arms) and I have found reference in a newspaper article in 1848 to another daughter called Sarah who is descried as Sarah Williams, a widow. Sarah doesn't appear in the 1841 census (Margaret does) and I wonder if she might have been older than Margaret and already married by then, so her birth may be around 1825. I'm guessing that William and Mary married before 1828. Mary died some time between the 1841 census and the newspaper article in 1848 so I don't have any more information about her. It would be good to know Mary's surname, when William and Mary married and also more about the mysterious daughter Sarah who only ever appears in the 1848 newspaper article and not in any censuses or in William's Will in 1867. Thanks for any informationGreygirl

Hello There is a marriage of a William Powell at Llanspyddid nr Brecon to a Mary Price on 2nd January 1824 by Licence according to records on Ancestry.co.uk it says Groom was a Llanvigan gentleman ? this might be their marriage as he was born at Llanspyddid and if he had two houses and left a will he may have had money so could he be classed as a Gentleman? . I can not say 100% it is their marriage but it might be! worth checking out.

I had a look on ancestry family trees and there is a family tree on there that matches your enquiry it says they were married in St Tydfil's parish church Merthyr Tydfil June 26th 1824 and her name was Mary Williams and she died aged 39 in 1844 so above info is probably wrong Sorry!!.
