Hi
I am currently trying to create the family tree in behalf of my dad. Unfortunately i have hit a brick wall when it comes to my Grandad, I can find no paper trail prior to him marrying my Nan in Weybridge, Surrey. 1930ish
He never said much and didn't want to regarding his past when he was still with us and we do not have the birth certificate, however I have a little bit to go on......
Cecil Davies born 1916 His father died when he was a child but no clues for the mother (or names) we think he had 1 sister and 2 brothers one of which called Frank. We Also believe he was the youngest Raised by his grandmother Mentioned Abergavenny a few times and worked in the mines so we think this is where Abergavenny comes in
through my digging i have found that he was likely to come from Merthyr Tydfil or Trelewis based on the Cecil's born in Wales Apr 1916 but this is not for sure
Please can anyone help? Did anyone have a relative that spoke of a sibling etc that moved or disappeared? - we know he didn't stay in contact
thanks in advance

Just an update, his marriage certificate (Cecil married my nan in 1939) says his fathers name was Stephen Davies and was a coal miner. Also said that Stephen was deceased

Hello do you know his exact date of birth? I had a look at the 1939 register on FIND MY PAST there was a CECIL DAVIES born 20/4/1916 married to a LILY. V. DAVIES born 14/5/1918 living at 111 OATLANDS DRIVE WALTON/WEYBRIDGE SURREY. He was an electrician's mate (airscrew propellers) was this the family/ married according to FREE BMD in(JUNE QTR 1939?) in surrey? her maiden name(SONGHURST). If that is him/them you could send for his birth certificate giving exact birth date and fathers name and the certificate will give mothers name and maiden name and address where he was born. Hope this helps you. Regards Mike

ok so i have changed the title of the thread because i have confirmed that the parents of Cecil Davies are Stephen and Gertrude Davies (Maiden Name is Davies also) I have found a lovely write up on a website for Stephen Davies that confirms 4 children in total. Cecil Davies (confirmed by birth certificate) and Iris Edna Davies via the write up below and 1911 census. However I am still struggling to find the other 2 brothers, can anyone help? (I know the other 2 children are boys as we have photos stating they are Cecil's brothers but of course no names)
Corporal Stephen Brithdir-Davies, 241090, 5th Battalion, Welsh Regiment is among 2,515 Commonwealth soldiers buried in the Jerusalem War Cemetery. Stephen was born in Llanelly, Carmarthenshire in 1891, the son of Stephen & Annie Davies. He married Gertrude Davies, in 1909, a native of Blaenavon, Davies being both her married name and maiden name. On the 1911 census, they were listed, with their 14 month old daughter Iris Edna, in the home of Albert Henry Price at 27 Birchgrove Terrace, Tirphil. Sometime later they moved to Brithdir. Before enlistment he was employed at Bargoed Colliery.
The 5th Battalion was at Gallipoli until December 1915 when they moved to Egypt. The battalion, part of 159 Brigade, 53 Division was involved in operations in the Jordan Valley at the time of his death. Cpl Davies was killed in action on March 10, 1918. The task of the Welch Regiment that day was to clear an area called Chipp Hill where they became heavily engaged with the enemy which resulted in two officers and twenty-five other ranks being wounded, and eight other ranks being killed including Cpl Davies. At the time of his death, Gertrude and four children resided at 26 James Street, Brithdir.
