Hi folks,
I've started doing some research with a view to putting together my family tree. I've been making a lot of headway on the Cornes (sometimes also spelt Corns) side of the tree so far and have managed to get back to the 1880s (if I'm on the right lines) and have hit a bit of a brick wall.
My maternal great grandmother was Margaret Cornes. She died when I was about 1, in 1991. From what I've been told she was raised in the children's home in Llwydcoed, possibly along with her siblings. I believe her parents are Evan John Cornes and Mary Ann Bevan and I've found them living at an address in Penydarren on the 1911 census. Evan John's parents are Joseph and Sarah Ann Cornes. If I'm on the right lines, Sarah Ann was born around 1836 in Pontypool and she appears with Evan John and his siblings on the 1901 census as a widower. Can't find anything on Mary Ann other than that her father was a Thomas Bevan.
I think Sarah Ann might have been a Price and married Joseph Cornes (possibly written as Corns) around 1857 in Pontypool but I'm not sure if this is correct. I think Joseph was born around 1831 and died in Merthyr in around 1885, buried in Dowlais.
I don't know if anyone could help me shed some light on this side of the family? As I say I think I'm on the right lines here but much of Sarah and Joseph has been a lot of educated guesses.
Thanks for the time!
James
