Wondering if anyone can shed light on a Private William Powell, a soldier in the ASC Transport Section in WW1. He served as an apprentice to William Powell, a Saddler from Merthyr Tydfil before he enlisted in 1914. According to his Army "Short Service" document, he was 32 yrs and 7 months when signed up, and he was married, although I've no name of his wife. His address at the time was 7 or 9 North Street Penydarren Merthyr Tydfil.
Reason for my interest is that there has been a WW1 service medal (no ribbon or clasp), that has been in my family for a long time, and as far as I'm aware, I have no "Powell" in my family tree. I don't know how it came to be in my family's possession, or why, but the address isn't far from where my grandparents used to live (Gibsons Row Penydarren)
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and ideally I'd love to find his descendants (if any)

Thank you for the info. I'm hopeful that I can get some evidence of living relatives. Then perhaps they may want the medal, or maybe there's a family link to me...

I have been having a look around. Very interesting, it seems that Garnet lived in Hatfield, Hertfordshire after his marriage, although I have to admit there is conflicting information about who is wife is, maybe he married twice. Constance seems to be at least one of his wives. It would be even better if we could find the link back to your family. But we would need some info about your family to do that, I don't know if you are interested or not. I love family research and would be more than willing to help if you want. Let me know.
