I am trying to find the origin of the name of the Black Lion sidings at Merthyr Vale. The would appear to be named after a pub, but the Mount Pleasant Inn, which I gather is also sometimes called the Black Lion, is of later date than the sidings. Even earlier, there was a Black Lion level crossing on the Merthyr Tramroad, as far as I can gather very close to the site of the sidings on a lane leading down from Cardiff Road to a ford over the River Taff. Does anyone know anything about an earlier Black Lion in this area? Or was the Black Lion something else entirely, a farm perhaps or a company emblem? Any assistance much appreciated/
