Hi I am trying to find out any information on the Davies family, They were a family of mostly Dr's. I think David Davies may have worked with a Dr Williams and Edward Davies (his son) was surgeon to the Cyfarthfa Works. I believe Edward also studied under Sir Astley Cooper at Guys Hospital. David Davies's father may have been a rector in llanelly not sure what his name was could have been Jeremiah...any information at all on this family would be very much appreciated.
Many Thanks
Mary

Sadly there are no surviving records of the Cyfarthfa Ironworks to shed light on David Davies. Edward Davies is listed in the Wales Register and Guide for 1878, Merthyr Tydfil Under the general heading 'Physicians and Surgeons' Davies, Edward, Court house Curious as I know of only one Court house here, the oldest building in Merthyr Tydfil and now the Labour Club It was a private residence and then became a school. I could not locate him on the 1881 census for Merthyr Tydfil but hampered by the number of persons called Davies. He is certainly not in the Court House in 1881:- EDWARDS, William Head Single M 30 1851 Hm Inspector Of Schools Ma Education Dept (Cs Offr) Denbigh, Denbighshire, Wales EDWARDS, Jane E Sister Single F 36 1845 Mistress Of Girls School Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire, Wales W RG number: RG11 Piece: 5313 Folio: 68 Page: 5
Sub District: Lower Merthyr Tydfil Address: Court House, Merthyr Tydfil
Perhaps there was another court house .........
Have you found your family on a Census? The best source of information mid-19th century. Directories are poor for Merthyr Tydfil and ( because of payments for inclusion ) can list people long after their death. I will see what I can find.

Many Thanks Mary You may have already got your answers. This is just to say that I have been sorting out the Davies clan, as a daughter from one of my clan married Edward Davies. My gt grandfather gave us all a family tree in which he mentions that his cousin, Sarah issued 3 daus and 3 sons. all of which I have traced. If you want any of the names let me know. Where I have come stuck is reading the Will of Dr Edward Davies dated 1853, in which he states that his wife, at that time, was his first wife, Elizabeth. This I haven't been able to work out as his second wife married him in 1852. So any answers will be gratefully appreciated. Cdh

Hi again, I am now a bit puzzled about Dr Edward Davies. Last week I only had one marriage, Sarah, to Dr Edward Davies b 1803-1880 in Merthyr. However, someone has a tree with a first marriage by the name of Elizabeth, giving the names of two of their children. However, this Dr Edward Davies doesn't seem to be the same chap, as he died in 1853 mentioning his wife's name as Elizabeth in his Will. Also, this chap is in the 1841 census as being born in 1815, can anyone describe where he fits in? As I notice they both are surgeons, they both died in a house by the name of The Court.
