I learned to swim there when I was 9, then returned with the junior school when all the other pupils in my class and the same year in other schools were given swimming lessons. I could swim so just messed around in the deep end.
Then I joined the Merthyr swimming club, was taught to race, but never moved up the ranks to the elite racers.
I remember Doug Thomas, and another instructor, but forget his name, Doug used to teach Technical Drawing and the other taught engineering at Merthyr Technical College. There was also a girl in my group called Delyth.
I used to love visiting the shop, and buying a packet of potato puffs, haven't had them for years.
I won a few races there for my scout group in the over 16 group.
Is the baths still there.

There is also a small swimming pool in Aberfan Community Centre Gwaunfarren has been pulled down. There are photos of Gwaunfarren baths and Pant and Edwardsville open air pools on OLD MERTHYR WEBSITE listed on page index.
